Biology Conference

Held every February at a Swiss academic institution, Biology is Switzerland’s largest and most important conference in organismal biology, jointly organized by the Swiss Zoological Society (SZS), the Swiss Botanical Society, and the Swiss Systematics Society. This scientific meeting attracts hundreds of participants from across Switzerland and beyond, fostering interdisciplinary exchange across institutions, research groups, and career stages.
Bringing together students, early-career scientists, and leading experts, the Biology conference serves as a dynamic platform for scientific discussion and collaboration. Covering a broad range of topics – with an emphasis on evolution, ecology, behavior, and systematics – the event plays a key role in advancing zoological research and strengthening the Swiss and international organismal biology community.
In addition to research presentations and plenary talks, highlights include the Early Achievement Award, presented by the SZS to recognize outstanding contributions by a young researcher, as well as the SZS annual business meeting. The conference also features a dinner in honor of Charles Darwin’s birthday, providing a unique opportunity for networking in a collegial setting.
